Sycamore High School moved up from 155th in the state in 2008 to 77th in the state in 2009. SHS moved up 78 spots due largely to an increased reading score on the PSAE .

Sycamore High School aspires to “Empower all Students to Succeed in their World.” Sycamore High School offers a wide variety of challenging, enjoyable and successful curricular opportunities, athletic programs, performing arts & musical programs with various clubs and activities.
It is our belief that high school should be “The Experience of a Lifetime.” In many cases the high school experience sets the stage for successes later in life and provides a lifetime of positive memories for our students. We encourage your child to become involved and engaged outside of the classroom. It will enhance their high school experience.
Sycamore High School is proud of our continual goal of providing an excellent education for our students. Sixty-five percent of our faculty have obtained Masters Degrees or higher. You will find our instructors available to assist your child in achieving their goals. We have a dynamic, hardworking faculty who are involved in education to benefit your child.
Our students are our focus at Sycamore High School. Sycamore High School is proud of the 45 Illinois State Scholars from last year’s senior class. SHS had the highest average ACT score in DeKalb County for schools with an enrollment over 600 (2009 school report card). Over seventy percent of our students go on to some type of secondary education.
SHS is proud of its commitment to technology with over 440 computers in the high school available to help students and staff. All teachers have their own net book computer; in addition the high school has 35 Smart Boards in classrooms. We are constantly striving to stay on the cutting edge of technology providing a more efficient building, increased communication and most importantly, preparing our students for the fast-paced world they will face.
We have excellent facilities including a completely remodeled Performing Arts Center, 56, 000 square foot Fieldhouse, 5,000 square foot weight room and a new classroom addition. All completed in the last ten years.
New and exciting changes this year include:
- Air conditioning added to the 400 wing of the building.
- A Café area added to the cafeteria.
- The implementation of Professional Learning Communities which will focus on three main questions:
- What do we want our students to learn?
- How will we know when they have learned it?
- How will we respond when they don’t learn?
- A pilot group of teachers exploring the concept of Mass Customization of Learning.
- A Math Interventionist to assist struggling math students.
